K-Pop fans, as early as now, get ready to greet 2018 with a bang as 24-28 of your favourite artists are set to fly in to Manila for the 32nd Golden Disk Awards for not just one but two grand evenings of what may be considered as the biggest and most prestigious Korean awards show and music festival, presented annually by the Music Industry Association of Korea. Winners from the previous year include EXO (Disc Daesang/Album of the Year), TWICE (Digital Daesang/Song of the Year), and BTS (Global K-Pop Artist Award), among others.

This will only be the fourth time that the said awards show will be held outside South Korea and the very first time to be staged in the Philippines. “The Philippines’ love for Korean entertainment is highly recognised in the industry,” HM Entertainment’s Steven Ko affirms.

Along with the hashtag #GDA18MNL which trended on Twitter earlier this month came many different speculations regarding the event’s details. Today (Nov. 18), All Access Productions and HM Entertainment shared the official details of the show through a press launch. When and where will the 32nd Golden Disc Awards be held?

The 32nd Golden Disc Awards will be on January 10 and 11, 2018 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Which artists are included in the lineup?

The Golden Disc Awards, as the name implies, is an awards show unlike the usual multi-artist concerts held in the country in the past. It is also a music festival so there will be onstage performances, but as may be observed from previous years, artists attending the event are nominees for certain categories. These are artists who debuted and/or promoted within 2017.

The nominees and voting details have yet to be announced by JTBC, the South Korean network holding the rights to this year’s event. HM Entertainment’s advice on how to get an idea of who will be in attendance? “Ask any K-pop fan!” If you think the artist that you’re supporting is likely to be nominated, then there’s a chance he/she/they will be present at the show.

When will tickets be available?

There will be a pre-selling event on November 26 at Eastwood City. Tickets may be purchased via SM Tickets from thereon.

What are the ticket prices?

SVIP Standing/Seated — PHP 12,000
VIP — PHP 10,000
Lower Box — PHP 8,000
Upper Box — PHP 5,000
General Admission — PHP 2,500
*Golden Ticket (2 Days) — PHP 25,000

These prices are exclusive of ticketing charges and are good for the selected day, except for the Golden Ticket which gives the bearer access to both days of GDA.

What is a Golden Ticket?

A Golden Ticket is a two-day pass that includes the special privilege of attending the red carpet event prior to the show. Only a limited number of Golden Tickets will be available.

“The red carpet is supposed to be a private event, but we’re going to open it to fans as a gift,” says Alfredo Delos Santos of All Access Productions. AAP’s Nina Tay also shares, “For our past shows, we give something back to the fans. That’s our way of saying ‘thank you’ for patronising our shows.”

What is the difference between Day 1 and Day 2?

The Golden Disc Awards differs from other awards shows such that not only physical but also digital sales are taken into consideration. Day 1 will highlight the nominees and winners in the physical sales categories, while Day 2 is for digital sales.

What else can fans look forward to in relation to the show?

Aside from the red carpet segment, awarding ceremonies, and performances from some of the best K-pop acts in the scene, the Golden Disk Awards will also host special events for lucky attendees, such as fan activities and sponsor booths.
