Every so often, on days like Araw ng Kalayaan or Buwan Ng Wika, the calendar gives us a reminder that we shouldn’t even be forgetting in the first place: Filipino culture is worth celebrating. The no-English-policy and baro’t-saya-filled days of August are drawing near, but as early as now, there is more than enough reason to celebrate Filipino culture—this time, focusing on homegrown music.
The final week of July was declared as Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino (Week of Filipino Music) by former President Benigno Aquino Jr. through Proclamation No. 933. 2017 marks its third annual observance. This July 23 to 29, Filipino music takes centerstage and the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) prepared plenty of stages championing local artists.
Check out OPM’s official schedule of activities in their post below:
The activities will culminate in a Grand Finale Concert called Bahaghari: LMP 2017, aptly reflecting the many colours of the diverse genres of Filipino music showcased throughout the week. The show will be on July 29 at Estancia Mall, Capitol Commons, Pasig City with performances by Kaleidoscope Eyes, MYMP, Never the Strangers, Davey Langit, Lucky Robles, Tres Marias, SUD, RJ Jimenez, Ben&Ben, Quest, Volts Vallejo, Mitch Valdes, Noel Cabangon, and more. This event is open to the public and admission is free.
UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the Grand Finale Concert has been rescheduled to September 1. Here is the updated event poster and lineup:
