Demi Lovato brought on the nostalgia in a note to childhood co-star — and these days, fellow pop star — Selena Gomez. She sent a tweet of congratulations to Gomez about her new single Friday afternoon (July 14), joking, “We’ve come a long way since our Barney days.”
“Loving your new song Fetish,” Lovato wrote.
The friendly sentiment was reciprocated by Gomez, who later tweeted back: “Yes we have – just listening to Sorry Not Sorry! You slay as always. So happy for you!”
Lovato and Gomez first met when they both appeared on the children’s television series Barney & Friends back in 2002, before going on to star in separate Disney Channel originals and building their careers in pop music.
This week, the singers both released new tracks that do indeed showcase the 24-year-olds’ now more grown-up sides: the unapologetic anthem “Sorry Not Sorry”(Lovato) and the sultry “Fetish” (Gomez).
