This year’s installment of Fete de la Musique was kicked off in style last night, June 15, 2017 at the Versailles Event Garden, Novotel Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City.
French dignitaries, people from the media, representatives from event production team B-Side Productions and the various pocket stages were present to celebrate what is arguably the biggest installment of the festival in the country. French two-piece electronic duo Encore provided the energetic live music during the kick-off.
Despite the abrupt cancellation of the two Main Stages in A-Venue and Greenbelt 3 for security concerns, there will still be over 30 pocket stages running simultaneously in Makati on June 17, plus a pocket stage in Palawan. The next date will be on June 23 in Intramuros, Manila, and a couple more in Baguio City and again in Palawan on June 24.
A total of over a hundred acts across almost all genres of music are participating.
Fete de la Musique in the Philippines has been one of the most prominent and most-awaited annual music events. Big favorites and emerging acts are slated to play in different stages grouped according to genre and sub-genres. The successful annual stagings of the festival can be attributed to the passionate groups of people who have been determined to not only uphold the yearly tradition, but to make attempts to make it bigger than before.
The Fete was started in Paris, France in 1982 by then-French Minister of Culture Jack Lang and is touted as Music Day. Celebrated in 120 countries worldwide, it debuted in the Philippines in 1994 as an intimate street concert near Remedios Circle in Malate with French and Filipino musicians in the line-up.
Over-all Project Manager Ziera de Veyra of B-Side Productions attests to this, stating “‘Di maa-accommodate yung mga ganung kadami at kagaling na mga bands if it weren’t for the pocket stage producers. Sila actually yung mga nakaka-discover ng mga bagong banda na mahusay. Yun naman talaga ang goal ng Fete – baguhan at mga professional na artists magkakasama sa isang tugtugan.”
