UBE: sometimes a delectable purple treat taking Instagram feeds by storm, sometimes a funk, blues, and rock band that is soon to take over your playlist. The independent act’s next step to making you crave for their music, much like their food counterpart, is in the form of a music video for their single “Sayang”, set to be launched on September 15 at Route 196, Katipunan.
Oh, what a waste of good ice cream indeed. The clever image promoting the music video launch hints at the theme of the song: wanting something so bad, but you can’t have it. The band —composed of M.C. “Mike” Ocampo (guitar/vocals), Gino Manglicmot (bass), Emir Bernabe (drums/percs), and Ej Romawac (guitar)— admits that they are no stranger to that feeling, so much that they made a video out of it, which promises to tell the story of how regret is inevitable when something is unrequited.
“We chose that song as a group because I think we all agreed that it had a catchy tune,” explains Mike. “I remember na alanganin ako sa song na ‘yun before kasi parang may katunog siya na kanta pero the more I listened to it, the more na nawala yung alinlangan and comparison.” (I remember being iffy about it at first because it sounds like another song, but the more I listened to it, the more that I veered away from comparison.)
Does “Sayang” remind you of another song, too? Listen and find out for yourself here:
UBE recently won Yellow Room Battle of the Band 2017 Grand Champion and are also one of the semi-finalists of Jack Daniel’s Future Legends. Here are some of their other tracks:
