With Gary Valenciano in the hosting chair, it isn’t your regular weekday evening at the Polari Comedy Club. Early in the evening, guests are lined up before a buffet table and are seated for dinner. “I come here tonight to be entertained and not to entertain,” he says as he begins his introduction. Humbling words from one who since his beginnings in the 1980’s, has surpassed many performers.
The presscon-turned-karaoke or rather, thanksgiving party, was a stripped-down version of the full production, emphasizing the very spirit and essence of Gary V Presents – to share the spotlight. Similar to the concert flow, Valenciano enthusiastically took his time as he provided each of his co-performers a heartfelt and justified introduction.
Besides the raffle prizes and performances by the original cast, the night was made memorable by a rare occasion. When and where else can anyone find media representatives sharing the stage and singing next to industry giants like Gary Valenciano?
Gary V Presents is the brainchild of Gary Valenciano, his son Paolo Valenciano and the Manila Genesis team. After a successful two-show run in November 2015, the concert merited a three reruns. This May 2017, Gary V Presents makes its fifth staging and grand finale at the The Theatre At Solaire with four shows distributed across two weekends, each at 8:00PM on these dates: May 12, May 13, May 19, and May 20.
While profits are given to beneficiary Shining Light Foundation, efforts of the Gary V Presents team are also directed towards deserving artists. “I would like to continue my advocacy to provide artists with a bigger platform to showcase their music to a wider audience and I’ll be on the look out for a new set of artists. But of course the original cast of Gary V Presents will always have a special place in my heart.”
Included in the Gary V Presents cast are the following artists: Allan Silonga, Bullet Dumas, Carla Guevara-Laforteza, Janice Javier, Jimmy Marquez, Katrina Velarde, Kiana Valenciano, Lara Maigue, Mitoy Yonting, Timmy Pavino, and RJ Dela Fuente. Bringing out the best in all the talents are Paolo Valenciano and Mon Faustino, each taking care of stage and music direction, respectively.
