The “greatest frontman of all time”, living rock ‘n’ roll legend, “John Lennon’s reincarnation” —Liam Gallagher has been dubbed several recognitions and descriptions in multiple fashions throughout the years, but an undeniable one is that he is one heck of a performer.

On August 14, the former Oasis lead singer brought not only the said band’s huge all-time hits, but also his new singles as a solo artist to the country with Liam Gallagher of Oasis: Live in Manila, presented by Ovation Productions. The rock ‘n’ roll icon aptly opened the show with “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star” with that uniquely Liam Gallagher-stage presence to match, compelling the crowd to their feet to completely forget about the existence of their seats.

The intensity levels of the night went straight to the roof right at the onset, with hands of adrenaline-fueled fans either raised up high or extended out to the stage to reach out to the singer.

Aside from performing classic Oasis hits like “Morning Glory”, “D’You Know What I Mean”, and “Slide Away” —much to the delight of fans who donned “Oasis”-printed shirts to the long-awaited show— Gallagher also performed songs from his forthcoming album As You Were, such as “Wall of Glass”, “For What It’s Worth”, and “Chinatown”. He wasn’t voted for as “the greatest frontman of all time” for nothing, and it showed in his consistent vocal quality and ability to get the crowd chanting “Liam, Liam” almost after every song just by performing the way he does, no frills nor glitz. As he mentioned in a press interview earlier that day, “As a frontman, as a singer, I’m fucking confident without a doubt.”

“This is for all you Oasis fans,” Gallagher says as he pulls his hood over his head before singing “Be Here Now”. He left the stage thereafter, prompting the crowd to chant “Oasis” and then back to “Liam”, a shared habit the attendees developed from the overflowing feeling of finally witnessing the singer perform live in the country. He obliges with an encore of “Wonderwall” and right from the very first words, every single mouth in the arena was singing along as phone flashlights waved in the air. Even the backing vocals were provided by the crowd that clearly knew every part of the song by heart. After all, he is every attendee’s wonderwall.

Gallagher bid everyone goodbye and to “stay safe”, but the crowd was unrelenting and reverted back to chanting “Liam”. A collective expression of disappointment could be heard when the lights finally went on but small groups in the crowd walked out of the venue singing their own select songs that they were wishing to hear for an extended encore, such as “Champagne Supernova” and “Live Forever”. A handful stayed near the pit and their dedication paid off as a few scored setlist print-outs and guitar picks from the show, concrete reminders of the one of a kind and long-awaited night that will ‘live forever’ in their memories.
