From Clipse to Daft Punk, Gwen Stefani and Kanye West, production legend Pharrell has worked with the best in the business. Ever since his early days as half of the Neptunes, he’s been a cultural taste-making force. His influence spreads beyond the studio through outlets such as his YouTube channel i am OTHER. Suffice to say, if Pharrell comes knockin’ on your door, you’re doing something big, and you’re doing it right.
Big ups to the beat boy Kaytranada, with whom Pharrell just publicly announced he’d like to make an EP during a recent joint-video interview with Beats 1.
“I’m super down,” Pharrell says. “It’s amazing what you do and your touch. Really looking forward to being on your record.”
Kaytranada sat beside the legend, and was humbled and obviously interested. Pharrell suggested they find a young Haitian artist to work with in ode to the Haitian-Canadian producer’s roots. Kaytranada mentioned that he’d just worked with Wyclef Jean and was very interesting in applying Haitian traditions to a more modern, crossover sound.
Kaytranada has recently worked with Alicia Keys on her single “Sweet F-ing Love” and Kendrick Lamar on DAMN and To Pimp a Butterfly. Here’s to hope we get an EP from the pair very soon. Watch the interview clip below.
