“This is a no-fan zone,” says Quest as he gestures towards his listeners. “Nobody here is a fan. We are a team.”
Last Valentine’s day, the premiere of the music video for “Walang Hanggan” was the center of the evening for many of Quest’s fans.
“[…] I want people to understand that the journey to greatness will require a few setbacks— this song speaks of my own, but this song is not the end. I was able to bounce back,” said Quest about “Walang Hanggan” in an interview with BillboardPH last January.
Directed by James Muleta of Stronghold MNL and released under Warner Music Philippines, the visual, starring actress Louise Delos Reyes, was revealed at Unit 27 Apartment Bar + Cafe at BGC.
A step inside the building leads you first into the familiar cafe scene where couples and families are seated at tables for Valentine’s dinner. Behind calm and relaxed air, an unassuming stairway takes you to another universe surprising even the regular gig-goer.
People make their way to the second floor and are greeted with smiles hinting at the challenge awaiting each guest. As the night progresses, passersby are kept wondering what could be drawing bodies in even after the venue has surpassed its capacity limit. Company consists of guests seated on the floor and a densely packed crowd of visitors opting to stand.
The dimly lit space allows tiny bulbs of light to appear like stars among a community of engaged listeners. Even at first glance, the environment primes guests for an evening of music and poetry.
Coming out of hiding for Quest’s music video launch is singer-songwriter Clara Benin, who later on joins alternative indie-rock band December Avenue in singing “Fallin.”
The room silences down when the next artist takes his place on the platform – spoken word artist Brian Vee who is still trying to grasp how he’s become part of the evening’s line-up.
Quest steps out from the side to greet his visitors before seating himself on a stool. Before singing originals, he begins his set with songs by fellow local artists including Thyro And Yumi and Southborder.
He then invites a guest performer from the audience to fill in Reese Lansangan parts as he sings “Paborito.”
From the unanimous reaction across the room, it seems multiple wishes are answered when Clara Benin joins Quest onstage for their hit collaboration track “No Greater Love.”
To the fans and friends present at the launch, Quest sends these words: “Sa lahat ng nagpunta, naghintay, umiyak, humugot, pinuno natin yung Unit 27 Bar+Cafe ng emosyon. Maraming salamat. Kayo ang pinakaunang nakapanood ng official music video ng Walang Hanggan. Sana nasakatan kayo. Pero hindi yun ang huli. May unang hakbang pa patungo sa kalawakan.”
The “Walang Hanggan” music video ranks #10 on MYX Daily Top Ten Pinoy, and is currently #25 on YouTube’s Trending videos for the Philippines. Watch the visual below:
