A more-than-pleasant evening was had by the people who attended RADHA + BASTI: A Rock & Soul Revue held at the Globe Auditorium, Maybank Theater, BGC Arts Theater on August 5. ATEAM (Alcasid Total Entertainment & Artist Management, Inc.) selected two grizzled rock and soul music artists, Radha Cuadrado and Basti Artadi, respectively, to be able to adapt and fuse with each other’s musical genre to top-bill a concert that somehow managed to be both intimate and spectacular at the same time.

Patterned after the New York Rock & Soul Revue series of concerts held at the iconic Beacon Theater, Radha and Basti joined forces with a well-assembled big band in creating a refreshing show where the musical interplay was the tour de force, without much emphasis on lights and effects.

Glorious horns signaled the start of the show with Radha + Basti performing “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”. Other highlights included Basti doing “People Get Ready”, the Temptations classic “My Girl” (a very welcome surprise), and his band Wolfgang’s “Center of the Sun”. Radha gave a vulgar display of vocal power with the Sting classic “If I Ever Lose My Faith”, Hall & Oates “Kiss on My List”, her former band Kulay’s strutty “Burn” (with former bandmate Angel Jones in attendance) and a crowd-rousing rendition of the Etta James classic “At Last”.

Highlights the duo did together included a versions of Sly & The Family Stone’s “Everyday People” and The Beatles’ “Come Together” as well as a revisit of Wolfgang and Radha’s Acoustika version of Wolfgang’s “A Matter of Time” and a gospel-esque Beatles medley of “Let It Be”, “Strawberry Fields Forever”, “Blackbird”, and “Hey Jude”. Hopefully, ATEAM gets to produce more shows like this in the near future.
