On August 5, Scout Magazine celebrated its 3rd birthday, filling SM Aura’s Samsung Hall with music lovers rocking glam band outfits and bad sunglasses. For this year, the publication prepared a summer-inspired Scout Music Fest in the midst of a rainy season for an ’80s-inspired party like no other.
The night was brought to life with performances by She’s Only Sixteen, Tandems ’91, Autotelic, Tom’s Story, Oh, Flamingo!, Farewell Fair Weather, BP Valenzuela, Rjay Ty, A-TEAM, IV of Spades, Jess Connelly x LUSTBASS, and Jensen and the Flips.
BillboardPH asked Lex Celera, the new editor-in-chief of Scout Magazine, who his favorites in the event’s line-up are. “Can I say all of them?”, he says before going on to express his excitement to watch Rjay Ty and A-TEAM, a dance troupe that has won numerous awards both locally and abroad.
Spotted in the crowd, Daddy’s Home founder Allen Silonga shares how the hip-hop and soul vibes of the event made him feel “nostalgic” about his time with previous band K24/7. He was there to support his son, Blaster Silonga, guitarist of IV of Spades.
Another artist found enjoying the show was Reese Lansangan, who originally came just to support Jensen and the Flips until a member of the band invited her to join their set. The The “Go Online” singer obliged and came up onstage to sing “Dangerous” to the delight of surprised fans.
Due to unfortunate technical difficulties, Lansangan’s microphone failed to function as she started singing, but the crowd was quick to sing the words out loud together with the band.
Jensen Gomez tells BillboardPH, “Honestly medyo nagulat ako. Kasi kahit alam namin na crowd song talaga yung ‘Dangerous’ ‘coz of some parts, memorized pala nung tao lahat. And magical siya for us. Grabe yung kilig.” He says it was the first time that the audience sang the words to the song for that long.
He also revealed the reason behind the song choice for their shared stage with Lansangan. “Dapat ‘Is This Love’. But we haven’t played that for a while. So we decided na ‘Dangerous’ na lang. Tapos yung ‘Slow’, ang saya kasi bumalik siya sa stage,” he shares, referring to the pop-folk singer’s other performance with the band that night.
